An account has been set up to help the family of an officer who was shot and killed over the weekend, Flagstaff police said. Tyler Stewart was killed by a domestic violence suspect on Saturday, who later killed himself.

The 24-year-old rookie officer was shot Saturday afternoon while speaking with a suspect in an earlier domestic violence report.

Flagstaff Police Sergeant Margaret Bentzen said officer Stewart leaves behind his parents, three sisters and a girlfriend. The Tyler Stewart Memorial account at Wells Fargo bank will help the family with expenses. Funeral arrangements are pending.

On Sunday, hundreds of people attended a candlelight vigil in Stewart’s honor. They gathered in front of the Flagstaff police department, where a makeshift memorial with flowers and cards had grown.
