Schweikert, Stanton Offer Different Views On Mexico After Nielsen Resignation
Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen’s departure from her post comes as Arizona’s congressional representatives are calling for changes to the U.S’s relationship with Mexico.
Some Republicans are suggesting a tougher stance on the matter, while Democrats say that won’t work.
Democratic Rep. Greg Stanton said what’s needed are more border judges and courts.
“We need to build up support for the judicial system here," Stanton said, "allow for quicker adjudication of matter so people aren’t moved to different parts of the United States of America. The quicker we can provide a quicker adjudication, the better.”
Republican Rep. David Schweikert suggested using diplomacy to find a solution.
“It’s time for the president to have a quick summit with Mexico and those in the Central American triangle,” Schweikert said.
Other representatives suggest more funding for non-government organizations to help migrants.
