Ideally, the Arizona Legislature tries to wrap up session by its 100th day. Tuesday marked day 100, but lawmakers still needed to pass a budget and conform state taxes to meet the new federal tax code.

"Assuming that we can get tax conformity done in a reasonable time," said House Speaker Pro Tempore T.J. Shope. "I'm hopeful that in the next week or two we may be even closer and ... we can be out of here in a couple of weeks."

Shope said tax conformity is the biggest hurdle they're facing.

As for the budget, he said he sees no problem passing that with discussions already underway for correction officer pay, and the 5 percent teacher pay raise by 2020 already built into the budget.
