The White Wing Fire is still burning across 2,500 acres in northwest Maricopa County.

Tiffany Davilla of the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management said suppression efforts have been successful in preventing the fire from spreading to nearby power lines.

“Within hours, firefighters were able to secure the east flank of the fire. That was the area that was pushing toward three miles of 120 kilovolt power lines. So that was some heavy infrastructure that we needed to keep from getting within the fire area," Davilla said.

Davilla added the prevention efforts have thus far been aided by cool nighttime weather.

“The cooler evening temperatures helped decrease fire activity, allowing those crews to begin successful burnout operations overnight, which ultimately aids in the suppression effort," Davilla said.

While the acreage of the fire hasn’t changed, it is now at 10 percent containment. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
