Most, if not all, U.S. presidents see their approval ratings rise significantly after they leave office. Arizona Theatre Company is banking on high approval numbers for its new production, an original called “Five Presidents.”

The play by Hollywood producer and writer Rick Cleveland takes place in a conference room in Yorba Linda, Calif. at the funeral for Richard Nixon in 1994. The five presidents who were alive at the time — Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton are gathered together.

The event actually happened, but we don’t know what was said.

We spoke with Rick Cleveland about where his play fits in.
