The number of unaccompanied children and migrants coming to the U.S. is on the rise.

This month, CNN reported that border patrol agents had encountered more than 100,000 migrants along the southern border in the span of four weeks.

Meanwhile, border officials warn that agency facilities are running out of space to properly house migrants — especially as the pandemic continues.

The Department of Health and Human Services is supposed to place unaccompanied migrant children with either a family member when possible or with a sponsor. But because of the coronavirus pandemic, the department has held them for longer, causing strain on available beds.
