The state has 11 applicants to consider for an opening on the Arizona Supreme Court, created by the retirement of Justice Andrew Gould.

Gould announced his retirement in mid-March, effective April 1st. That gave the Commission on Appellate Court Appointments 60 days from April 1 to replace him.

The commission is asking for public comment on the 11 applicants.

Those comments can be submitted ahead of time via email or made in person at a public meeting on April 27. The meeting will be held in the Arizona State Courts Building at the state Capitol.

At that meeting, the commission will choose finalists to be interviewed in May.

After those interviews, at least three nominees will be given to Gov. Doug Ducey, who will select the newest justice.
