Democratic gubernatorial candidate Marco Lopez has financial ties to what’s considered the biggest international bribery case in history through his work for former Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto, as reported by the Arizona Agenda, a local political newsletter.

The story highlights how a consulting agency run by Lopez received a $35,000 payment from a Swiss bank account, which was apparently part of roughly $3 million worth of bribes with a mining company called Odebrecht.

It’s still unclear exactly how involved Lopez was in the bribery scandal, or if he knowingly did anything wrong.

To learn more about the case, The Show spoke with the Arizona Agenda's Hank Stephenson, who broke the story.
