Rising housing prices can hit older adults hard, especially if they’re on a fixed income. Now, the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors will allocate $2 million that’ll go towards senior apartments in Goodyear.

A state House of Representatives subcommittee met Thursday to address Arizona’s growing homelessness crisis. After hearing testimony, they plan to introduce legislation addressing the crisis by the end of the month.

The Sedona City Council has opted to support a program the city proposed late last year that provided locally employed residents a safe place to park if they couldn’t afford to live there.

Flagstaff is known for freezing winters, which makes the challenge of being homeless even more difficult. Flagstaff Shelter Services’ Executive Director Ross Schaefer says city shelters can accommodate people who normally sleep outside.

According to Maricopa County Justice Courts, Phoenix-area landlords filed 83,236 evictions last year – that's a 23% increase from the previous year. And it’s the highest number of eviction filings in the county since 2005.

The Show spoke with Fred E. Taylor, a professor of real estate at Arizona State University, about what 2024 holds for the housing market.

For the past three years, Pima County with the City of Tucson has allocated more than 88 million federal dollars through the Emergency Rental Assistance Program to aid households affected by the pandemic. Around 17,000 Pima County eligible households received the help. A University of Arizona workshop has been following the benefits of the program for years.
