Phoenix Offers Remote Video Inspections For Home Projects
Phoenix residents have a new way to get some common home construction projects approved.
The city’s Planning and Development Department recently launched a remote video inspection program. Rather than wait for an inspector to show up in person to check the completed work, a homeowner or contractor can use their phone to send a live video feed.
During the pilot program, Michael Grubbs served as a remote inspector. “So we’re learning things like how to direct the customer to hold the camera or the phone, what to zoom in, what is important for the inspection based on the type,” he said.
Video inspections are available for simpler residential projects like gas line extensions and minor plumbing and electrical work.
Grubbs said in the future they may expand to cover more residential projects and possibly add remote video inspections for certain commercial projects.

- Main breaker “de-rate” for photovoltaic (solar) panel installations
- Electrical service upgrades (up to 200 AMP)
- Electric meter socket replacement
- Minor electrical work
- Water heater replacement
- Minor plumbing work
- Plumbing, Repipe 1 Bathroom
- Plumbing, Repipe 2 Bathrooms
- Plumbing, Repipe 3+ Bathrooms
- Repair/replace gas line
- Gas clearance
- Sewer lines
