Last week, Airbnb announced a global ban on all parties and events at any of their listings, and an occupancy cap at 16.

The announcement was made a day after it filed a document with the Securities and Exchange Commission to go public.

Harsher restrictions on parties isn’t new. But the company continues to add more user rules in an attempt to combat “party houses” and unsafe occupancy. Since the pandemic, the company removed filters and “House Rules” that list rentals as event or party-friendly and told users to follow local COVID-19 public health mandates.

In Arizona last month, the company suspended or removed 50 listings that violated the party and event policy. In the past, it had allowed for some hosts to use their own judgement for small birthday parties or baby showers, but now all parties and events are banned globally until further notice.

Meanwhile, Airbnb has filed with the SEC to sell stock in the company.
