Arizona To Inspect Hotel Water Parks For COVID-19 Order Compliance

In response to a lawsuit, inspectors are being sent to various Arizona resorts to confirm whether or not they are following Gov. Doug Ducey’s order to limit or close water park attractions.

Dr. Cara Christ says she and Ducey originally assumed that resort activities would be limited to guests and they would have a list for contact tracing if someone had gotten COVID-19. However, Christ says, some resorts allow day passes to non-guests, so now they need to check if the resorts are following the law.

“If they're limiting the activities and it's limited to hotel guests and they're not drawing large crowds like people waiting, that will be taken under consideration. But if they're bringing in the public and everything's open and it's operating as a water park, that's going to be a much different scenario," Christ said.

Mesa Golfland Sunsplash sued Ducey claiming the order gave disparate treatment to stand-alone water parks versus resorts with water parks.
