Arizona Secretary Of State Katie Hobbs: Voting By Mail Is Safe, Secure
Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs wants voters to know that mailing ballots is a safe and routine process in the state.
In a Facebook Live video posted Tuesday, Hobbs recommended voters send in their ballot as early as possible. Ballots can be tracked as well, so voters can make sure theirs was received.
“We have done it for decades in Arizona. We have the infrastructure set up to handle a large increase in vote-by-mail because most voters in Arizona already choose to vote that way," Hobbs said.
Hobbs also says voters have another option: dropping off their mail-in ballots at any of their county’s early voting locations, secured ballot drop boxes or polling locations on Election Day.
The deadline to register to vote is Oct. 5. Early voting begins Oct. 7, and voters can either request a mail-in ballot or go to an early polling site in their county. Voters can request an early ballot up until Oct. 23, at arizona.vote.
Hobbs also revealed Tuesday that the state’s primary election had broken records in multiple categories.
“We had over 1.4 million ballots cast. So that was a record number in a primary. We also had record turnout, at 36% turnout, and record early voting,” Hobbs said.
Hobbs also says 88% of the people who voted, cast ballots through the mail or at early voting locations. And despite the pandemic, Hobbs says the election ran smoothly, with no major problems.
