New CDC Rule Limits Evictions Beyond Arizona's Deadline
With many Arizonans struggling to pay rent, Gov. Doug Ducey has extended the state’s eviction moratorium through the end of October. But now the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has issued its own eviction ban that will last through the end of the year.
Under CDC guidance, tenants still must pay rent. But renters can’t be removed from the property for non-payment if they can show they meet certain qualifications. Requirements include showing they’ve suffered a substantial loss of income and that they’ve applied for housing assistance. Tenants must also agree to make timely partial-payments if possible.
Adults listed on the lease must provide a written declaration of these qualifying circumstances to the landlord. Evictions for criminal activity or property damage are still allowed.
