Arizona State University President Michael Crow sent a letter Sunday to the Arizona Department of Health Services, alleging that several restaurant-bars near the Tempe campus were violating COVID-19 safety protocols.

Former state health director Will Humble agrees with Crow’s actions.

"I applaud Dr. Crow for getting that information out to the state health department. It’s important to hold the public health system accountable," Humble said.

Humble also says the biggest increases in cases can be seen at the zip codes surrounding ASU and the University of Arizona.

On Sunday, state health officials reported 384 more COVID cases and seven additional deaths. However, hospitalization trends are still decreasing. There have been over 208,000 cases and over 5,000 known deaths in the state due to the virus.
