The COVID-19 pandemic has seen a significant spike in cases and hospitalizations recently in Arizona, and as a result, the state has once again emerged as one of the top hotspots in the western United States.

Dr. Joshua LaBaer, executive director of Arizona State University's Biodesign Institute, says Arizona is second in the West when it comes to rates of COVID-19 cases, recording between 5,000 and 7,000 new cases a day.

“Arizona continues to be one of the leading hotspots in the western U.S., we’re second only to California. Although, somewhat distant second, California really has an extraordinary new case rate.”

LaBaer also emphasized that hospitals are concerned and inundated with COVID-19 cases and people should be more mindful to try and avoid accidents. Such as driving more carefully and avoiding tasks that pose a physical risk.
