The Mesa temple for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is currently open to members of the public — something that hasn't happened since 1975.

The temple was one of the first built in the U.S., back in 1927. And it's been undergoing renovations in recent years, with the aim to restore it to its post-World War I splendor.

After that, it will be closed except to good-standing members of the church.

Until then, demand for tours is high; up to 500,000 people will go through the temple in the next six weeks. Tours run Monday to Saturday through Nov. 20, and reservations are encouraged.

The Show got a tour by the couple charged with organizing it all, Richard and Karen Gulbransen.
