The Arizona State Fair broke its previous record for attendance last month after 2020’s fair was cancelled due to COVID-19 concerns.

The fair hosted almost 1.6 million guests over 22 days at the fairgrounds in central Phoenix. The previous record was 1.3 million guests in 2019. This year, the Fair surpassed that mark on its 17th day.

Several adjustments, like mobile ticketing and hand sanitizer and hand-washing stations, were put in place for the safety of attendees.

The event was initially supposed to be held at Wild Horse Pass on the Gila River Indian Community's reservation near Chandler, but the move was canceled and the fair returned to the Phoenix location, which has been in use since 1905.
