The Senate Education Committee passed a bill that would require school curriculum material to be posted online in an effort for transparency. School districts would have to post a list of learning materials and activities so parents could decide whether it's appropriate content for their child.

Arizona Education Association President Joe Thomas says the bill will create a more stilted education since you cannot teach what's not posted.

“What I believe will play out will be a narrowing of that curriculum. It will be the base lesson plan without all of the pieces that will attract curiosity," Thomas said. 

Other opponents argue the bill's posting requirements may ask too much of already overworked teachers and exacerbate the ongoing teacher shortage if they quit.

The bill's next stop is the Senate Rules Committee.
