From flags to fountains, how Arizona is showing support for Ukraine
Ukrainian flags are selling fast in the Phoenix area, as hundreds show support for the country.
Darlen Uzdan from All the King’s Flags in Phoenix says she is nearly sold out.
"I have already passed out 12 3-by-5 foot, which is a full-sized flag;12 3-by-3, we got rid of 24 of the 12-by-8 inch handheld ones.”
Uzdan says she expects to be restocked by next week, and she wants to remind people if they plan on flying a Ukrainian flag, etiquette dictates it must fly at the same height as the U.S. flag, out of respect.
Some landmarks around Arizona are also showing their support of Ukraine.
Fountain Hills officials told Phoenix TV station ABC15 that the fountain east of Phoenix will be lit blue and yellow every Wednesday night through March for Ukraine and its citizens.
The fountain inside a man-made lake shoots a stream of water 560 feet into the air for about 15 minutes at the top of each hour from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
The town of Gilbert lit its water tower in the colors of Ukraine’s flag last week as a show of support.
Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey announced Tuesday that the Arizona Capitol will show colored lights this week, and Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego said City Hall also will be lit up to show support for Ukraine.
In a tweet Tuesday, Gallego said: “We stand with the people of Ukraine and symbolically light up Phoenix City Hall in blue & gold, signifying our solidarity.”
