On Friday, Gov. Katie Hobbs vetoed a bill that would have removed Arizona from a program that helps perform voter registration checks across state lines.

The Electronic Registration Information Center, also known as ERIC, is a nonprofit organization comprised of election officials from around the country.

It matches voter registration data from motor vehicle departments from multiple states to identify duplicate registrations and voters who have moved or died.

In her veto letter, Hobbs called it an essential election tool.

ERIC has become caught up in conspiracy theories regarding the 2020 presidential election.

Multiple Republican-led states — including Florida, Ohio and Alabama — have left or notified the organization their intentions to do so, citing concerns of confidentiality and privacy.
