An emergency order closing a portion of the Coconino National Forest is in effect due to a fire burning north of Pine.

Officials said the area will remain closed until Sept. 30 but may be rescinded earlier.

The Wilbur Fire was sparked by lightning last month and has been contained to fewer than 500 acres.

No traffic delays are expected along Highway 87 and Highway 260 from firefighting efforts.

The fire is being used to burn accumulated vegetation in the area south of Flagstaff to prevent more catastrophic fires later.
