The arrival of summer means the Valley’s most vulnerable residents need ways to avoid the heat. Arizona Faith Network is hosting a community service event this weekend at Central United Methodist Church to help them do just that.

The Rev. Katie Sexton-Wood is AFN’s executive director.

“So Sunday’s event is the second time we’ve ever done this. This is our annual interfaith heat packing night. We are packing a thousand heat relief kits to distribute to our respite centers as well as to our street outreach throughout Maricopa County,” she said.

Kits include a water bottle, sunscreen and cards with cooling center locations, among other items. AFN is a partner of the Maricopa Association of Governments’ Heat Relief Network.
