Scottsdale looking to trade up its gold-level bike friendly status
When it comes to bicycling, Scottsdale wants to trade its gold-level status for a higher platinum-level.
The city is renewing its Bike Friendly Community application with the League of American Bicyclists. As part of the process, Scottsdale is asking for public feedback. An online survey is available through Aug. 25. It asks people how often they ride in Scottsdale and what can be done to make it better.
Scottsdale has nearly 192 miles of on-street bike lanes, 123 miles of shared-use paved paths and 156 miles of unpaved trails.
Among cities with populations larger than 100,000, Scottsdale, Tempe and Tucson are among 13 recognized as gold-level. Arizona cities recognized at the silver level include Mesa, Sedona, Flagstaff and Cottonwood. Bronze-level cities are Phoenix, Prescott, Sierra Vista and Yuma.
In the League’s state rankings, Arizona comes in at 31. The top bicycle friendly states are Massachusetts, Oregon and Washington.
