Marathon runner Martinus Evans with his book, “Slow AF Run Club.”

Martinus Evans likes to prove people wrong. That’s why he started running after a doctor told him he was fat and couldn’t do it.

That’s also where the name of his international run club came from. When someone on the sidelines of a marathon he was running called him “slow AF,” he put the slogan on his shirt the next time he ran a race.

Since that day about a decade ago, Evans has become the poster child for people who don’t fit the traditional image of a runner — slim, fit, lean. Instead, he has run multiple marathons in a body weighing 300-plus pounds, and he wants us all to think differently about what it means to be active.

Now he has a new book out called “Slow AF Run Club,” and The Show spoke with him more about it.
