What does the COVID-19 surge, new variant mean for Arizona?

COVID-19 has largely been out of the headlines for some time, but a late summer surge in cases and a new variant has researchers on the lookout.

This week, we're currently seeing a jump in hospitalizations around the country, with numbers up more than 21% nationwide. There's also a new variant called BA.2.86 that is beginning to pop up around the world.

The Show spoke with Dr. David Engelthaler, head of the infection diseases department at the Translational Genomics Research Institute, or T-Gen, for more.
