Phoenix officials are considering further restricting trail access due to frequent hiker rescue calls.

Kimberly Quick-Ragsdale, spokesperson for the Phoenix Fire Department, said they want to limit access during the hotter parts of the day.

“They’re looking at doing year-round closures during afternoon hours when temperatures are above 105 degrees and expanding that to the hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.," she said.

Officials are also considering banning pets from trails once it hits 90 degrees.

She said whether there’s a heat advisory in effect or not, it’s important to protect yourself from the sun and dehydration, and never hesitate to call 911 if you get into trouble.
