A federal judge has sentenced an Iowa man to two and a half years in prison for making threats to elected officials in Arizona over the 2020 election.

According to the Department of Justice the man, identified as Mark Rissi, left a threatening voicemail for Maricopa County Supervisor Clint Hickman and former Attorney General Mark Brnovich.

The messages were left months apart, but both included threats of extreme violence, including hanging.

Rissi pleaded guilty to two counts of “sending a threatening interstate communication.”

The case is part of the DOJ’s Election Threats Task Force, which works with state and local law enforcement agencies to assess allegations and threats against election workers.
