Over the weekend, the Maricopa County Republican Committee passed a resolution to ask the Arizona GOP to pull out of the state-run presidential primary.

Committee Chairman Craig Burland posted a video to the online platform Rumble explaining what his committee wants.

"Hold the election for our presidential nominee, by the people for the people, one day, one vote, paper ballot, hand count, all at the precinct level," Burland said.

It’s not illegal for a party to withdraw from the state-run primaries.

But in a reaction video posted to X, formerly known as Twitter, Arizona Republican Party Chairman Jeff DeWit noted the financial costs of adopting the plan.

"It would be much appreciated if they would tell us where we're going to get the $13 to $15 million that the secretary of state estimates we will need to do what they're asking us to do," DeWit said.

DeWit says he is gathering the party’s executive committee for a meeting to vote on whether to adopt the resolution.

As of June 30, the state party had less than $150,000 on hand, according to a campaign finance report.

DeWit has until Friday to tell the Arizona Secretary of State's Office whether the party will join the state-run election.
