The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development updated its housing voucher allocation amounts to reflect increasing rent costs around the country.

An additional $113 million is being doled out to 36 states, including just over $2 million in Arizona.

The funds are allocated to Housing Choice Vouchers, which  allow financially struggling families to find affordable housing. But with rising housing costs, HUD needed to adjust its Fair Market Rents – on average by 12% around the country – to stay competitive. This will increase the “number of units that families using housing vouchers can access.”

The highest portions of the funding will go to Texas and California.

The total will help provide rental assistance to 9,500 more families across the country.
