2 winners picked in ADOT’s freeway safety sign contest
Two new messages will soon be appearing on metro Phoenix freeway signs. The winners of Arizona Department of Transportation’s annual Safety Message Contest were announced Friday afternoon.
The top two messages were selected during a public vote last month. More than 3,500 entries were submitted for the annual contest.
Elise Riker, a business professor at Arizona State University and Chandler resident:
Gina Finkelstein, a software support engineer and Mesa resident:
Finkelstein said in a press release that her submission was inspired by the movie “Notting Hill,” starring Julia Roberts.
“Using turn signals before you turn makes you a total star,” Finkelstein said, “just like Julia Roberts in ‘Notting Hill,’ only bigger and better!”
ADOT uses the electronic signs to post funny and thoughtful messages meant to remind motorists about the importance of safe driving.
