The Coronado National Forest is in southeastern Arizona..

Prescribed burns will soon begin in the Coronado National Forest, north of Tucson.

One facet of the operation will involve pile burning. Forest officials burn piles of wood debris to mitigate hazardous fuels, recycle nutrients back into the soil and promote the growth of vegetation.

They will also be conducting broadcast burns, applying fire to predetermined areas of the forest. That’s designed to minimize the risk of fires threatening human safety and property.

Burn operations will begin in mid-October and finish by January.
