Arizona has suspended Medicaid payments to 300-plus providers accused in a massive scheme that preyed on tribal members seeking substance-abuse treatment.

Gov. Katie Hobbs says legal loopholes need to be closed in order to permanently address the issue.

“This is a big problem that has gone on for a long time and it’s going to take a while to fix. I think the biggest issue is that these providers keep popping back up again and that’s what we have to make sure doesn’t happen," Hobbs said.

With hundreds of so-called rehabs being shut down, some have voiced concerns of how patient needs will be met. Hobbs did not give specifics but said the problem is being addressed with urgency.
