Two similar but conflicting propositions to change Arizona’s elections could appear on the ballot in next year’s November general election.

A group called Better Ballot Arizona has filed paperwork to put a measure on the ballot that would have all candidates run in a single primary race.

The top-five would then advance to the general election, regardless of party and be chosen through a ranked-choice-voting process.

However, another group called Make Elections Fair filed paperwork last month to have a similar open primary. The difference is that it would allow the Legislature to decide how to run the following general elections.

Make Elections Fair is set to start collecting signatures in November. If both make it to the ballot and pass, the one with more votes gets enacted.
