In addition to Veterans Day weekend, Friday is the start of the Fountain Festival of Fine Arts & Crafts.

Fountain Hills Chamber of Commerce CEO Betsy LaVoie said among the fine art exhibited by some 500 artisans and craftspeople, attendees will find pieces ranging in price from $20 to $20,000.

“It’s all handcrafted from jewelry to oil paintings to sculpture, metal, leather–every different kind of medium that you can imagine," said LaVoie.

She also indicated that includes culinary art, such as homemade salsas and moles.

The festival began as an economic development tool nearly 50 years ago when Fountain Hills was not even a town. “It was a tourism effort, so people knew the community existed,” said LaVoie.

The original location for the event was at Fountain Park but later moved due to a flash flood that washed the tents and merchandise into Fountain Park Lake.

All of the arts and crafts are juried to ensure they are original works to prevent re-selling of someone else’s wears, according to LaVoie.
