The Arizona Game and Fish Department frequently tells members of the public not to feed wildlife, and the agency is repeating that warning on the heels of what appears to be a fatal elk attack.

In late October, a northern Arizona man brought his wife to Kingman for medical treatment.

He had found her on the ground with what appeared to be injuries caused by trampling. He also saw a bucket of spilled corn nearby.

The woman was later transferred to a hospital in Las Vegas, where she died.

Game and Fish says this is probably the first fatal elk attack in Arizona, but five people have been injured in the last five years.

The injuries took place after people approached elk to feed them.
