Tribal police officer arrested in connection to a hit-and-run accident in Arizona
The FBI is investigating a now former officer of a northern Arizona police department who was arrested Friday on numerous assault and reckless driving charges. He is accused of fatally striking a pedestrian, then fleeing the scene.
The Navajo County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of White Mountain Apache Police Department Officer Josh Anderson this week. Anderson was also charged with leaving the scene of pedestrian Iris Billy’s death Thanksgiving morning after investigators found evidence of a collision on Anderson’s patrol car.
Chief Deputy Brian Swanty said Anderson not only fled the scene, but then responded to the scene and delivered news of her death to Iris’ next of kin.
"The police department and the officers that responded to that and the leadership and the command staff acted in a swift, aggressive, proactive and transparent manner," Swanty said.
Anderson will potentially also face federal charges. He resigned after he was arrested.
