Tempe and Maricopa County form partnership to invest money in housing
A new partnership will bring affordable housing to north Tempe. With nearly $11 million in funds provided by Maricopa County, the city may be able to plan for mixed-use urban development.
Tempe Mayor Corey Woods says he thinks getting the money was largely due to the city’s housing initiatives.
“You don't get that kind of allocation from the county governing body if they don't think that you're doing exceptional work. So I really — having that additional $10.8 million is going to allow for us to expand our affordable housing efforts and do it a lot more quickly," he said.
According to the city, Maricopa County is using money from the American Rescue Plan Act to address housing challenges. Before purchasing any property for development efforts, the City Council will need to give its approval.
