The nonprofit Habitat for Humanity Central Arizona recently opened a new training center that will be used to equip people with home building skills. The organization functions as a charity that renovates and repairs homes for people ranging from single parents to veterans.

Gov. Katie Hobbs attended the center’s ribbon-cutting ceremony.

“These massive projects bring people into the state, meaning on top of the construction of the facilities themselves, there’s also an increased need for affordable housing. And I can’t think of anyone better suited to meet these unique demands than Habitat for Humanity," she said.

Students will learn construction trades in classroom settings and build Habitat for Humanity Homes, according to CEO Jason Barlow.

He also says the vision is to provide everyone with a “decent place to live.”
