After 18 years, Human Services Campus changes its name

It’s been over 18 years since the Human Services Campus opened in downtown Phoenix to offer resources to people experiencing homelessness. But now it’s changing its name.
Starting next year, the nonprofit organization that owns and manages the campus will be rebranded as Keys to Change.
The campus itself will go by Key Campus. It was at the center of "The Zone," a multiblock homeless encampment that the city of Phoenix cleared out over several months.
In a statement, CEO Amy Schwabenlender said the change comes as a way to alleviate confusion caused by the campus and organization previously sharing a name.
She added that the changes aim to reinforce the nonprofit’s commitment to serving people and to ending homelessness.

A big part of helping the homeless is understanding that people move at their own pace, says the United Way's Amy Schwabenlender. It might take someone months or years to take all the needed steps, and she says that's OK.
