Starting Tuesday, Dec. 26, residents in metro Phoenix can drop off live trees and wreaths to be composted.

Live trees and wreaths that are free of lights, ornaments and stands can be taken to 14 Phoenix parks or the city’s two waste transfer stations. Sunbelt Rentals will also accept one tree per household at its two Phoenix locations. The trees and wreath will be taken to the city’s compost facility. Phoenix will accept live trees from residents through Sunday, Jan. 7.

Mesa offers five locations for Christmas tree recycling drop-offs through Jan, 16. According to the city, they “will be sustainably reused as garden mulch and marine habitats at Roosevelt Lake.”

Scottsdale recycling begins Dec. 30 and ends Jan. 15. Gilbert recycling runs through Jan. 14. Other Valley cities also offer drop-off locations.
