Water users in Gilbert are being asked to weigh in on a proposed multi-year rate increase.

According to the town, the average resident pays about $30 a month for water services. The rate-hike proposal would more than double that monthly water bill by gradual increases through 2026. An initial monthly increase of $17 would start in April.

A majority of residential customers would also see their monthly rate for solid waste and recycling services go up by about $8.

Gilbert officials say the proposed rate and fee increases will help pay for critical infrastructure projects.

The town is offering an open house for residents to ask questions and give feedback later this month. Gilbert Town Council is expected to vote on the proposal Feb. 6.
