Former Arizona Department of Corrections Director Charles Ryan set to be sentenced on gun charge

The former director of the Arizona Department of Corrections is scheduled to be sentenced on Thursday morning in Maricopa County Superior Court. Charles Ryan pleaded no contest in November to a charge of disorderly conduct with a gun.
The case stems from a standoff with police at Ryan’s Tempe home two years ago.
Ryan’s plea deal calls for a sentence of probation and an $8,500 fine, according to the Associated Press.
Police initially said that Ryan pointed a gun at officers. But correlating charges were not part of a grand jury indictment that accused Ryan of disorderly conduct with a gun and shooting within the city limits.
Now one charge has been dropped and the crime to which Ryan has pleaded no contest is no longer classified as a felony on the court docket.
The Maricopa County attorney has promised to explain decisions about Ryan’s case once it’s resolved.
