Sentencing of the former state Corrections director over an armed standoff with police at his Tempe home has been postponed.

Sentencing of the former state corrections director over an armed standoff with police at his Tempe home has been postponed.

Charles Ryan was in the courtroom on Thursday but he did not speak to reporters.

Ryan’s next scheduled court date is in early February for a mitigation hearing over the 2022 incident. It means a chance for Ryan to call witnesses and make a statement to try to convince a judge to impose a lower sentence.

Ryan pleaded no contest last year to disorderly conduct with a gun and a second charge was dismissed.

Ryan’s agreement with prosecutors calls for probation. The maximum sentence for his offense is two years in prison.

Tempe police initially said that Ryan pointed a gun at officers.

A correlating charge was not part of a grand-jury indictment of Ryan.
