Mesa mayor urges Republicans in Congress to work across the aisle to pass immigration reform
During a visit to Washington, D.C., for an annual conference, Mesa Mayor John Giles is urging Republicans in Congress to work across the aisle to achieve immigration reform he says could be historic.
“I'm doing my best while I'm out here to explain to my Republican colleagues that they ought to take a win,” said Giles. “You know, it’s been many years since we’ve had a Democratic president and Congress that have realized that border security and some of the other things that are priorities to Republicans that they're willing to say 'yes' on.”
Giles added that for the first time in years, Democratic mayors in big cities are joining the chorus of border state mayors asking for changes to immigration policy that could provide relief to states like Arizona.
