Rainbow Road is arguably the most well-known track from Nintendo’s “Mario Kart” video game series. It’s also the name of one of the latest projects from Phoenix-based builder Intersection Development, which will give residents the opportunity to experience life inside the multicolored circuit.

Designed by architect Lev Libeskind, the development will feature 36 boutique units, each with a distinct, irregular shape. The building will be mostly black, with rainbow lights lining the outside of the trapezoidal windows.

Plans include an open-air roof where monthly art exhibitions will be held and a ground-floor restaurant and bar with a large, open patio. The ground-floor will be public facing, which includes an original public installation intended to guide people into the apartment building.

Apartments from one bedroom up to three bedrooms will be available, appealing to both families and individuals alike.

Rainbow Road broke ground this week at First and Portland streets. The building is slated to open early 2025.
