Congressman and U.S. Senate hopeful Ruben Gallego said it’s immoral of former President Donald Trump to discourage Republican lawmakers from passing a bipartisan immigration bill.

Text of an agreement has not yet been released, but a bipartisan effort to pair funding for Ukraine and Israel with border security measures has been jeopardized by Trump’s opposition. The former president has publicly stated that Republicans should only accept a deal for the border that is “perfect.”

Gallego told MSNBC’s "Morning Joe" that Trump’s efforts to politicize the border is inexcusable.

“This is dangerous territory we are in,” Gallego said. “We need to be treating this as a serious situation, not as a political opportunity, and it’s shameful that Republicans are doing that just so they can get Donald Trump, of all people, back into office.”
