A $13 million investment into Northern Arizona University by the Arizona Commerce Authority (ACA) will allow the institution to expand semiconductor training and research.

The expansion is focused on the scientific study of measurement.

Andy Wang is the dean of the school’s College of Engineering, Informatics and Applied Sciences.

“With this grant, we'll bring in more projects from industry. So students will have more opportunity to practice those real-world projects, hands-on, and working with industry supervisors and so on," he said.

Funding would establish a certificate program, semiconductor training center and research and teaching laboratory. This latest allocation comes on the heels of the ACA’s prior support of educational institutions that support semiconductor research in the state.
