Arizona bill would add 4-hour required class for teen driver's licenses

A state House committee passed a bill that would require the Arizona Department of Transportation to create a driving course that proves to be effective in reducing vehicle collisions.
The proposed 4-hour course would be required to qualify for a Graduated Driver’s License for the first time.
Graduated licenses are for drivers between 16 and 18.
Democratic state Rep. Jevin Hodge voted for the bill, but was concerned about the price tag for low-income families.
"If we are mandating something that they can’t afford then what are they gonna do? Right? Especially if there is a penalty associated with it or if it prevents them from getting their license," Hodge said.
Fees for the proposed class have not been finalized.
