House passes bill banning the sale of lab-grown meat in Arizona

A bill that would prohibit the sale of lab-grown meat has passed the Arizona House.
Rep. David Marshall, a Republican from Snowflake, says he introduced the measure to protect the cattle industry in Arizona.
While it bars the sale, if the bill becomes law, people would still be able to buy lab-grown meats from other states.
Another bill that would not ban sales, but require labels telling consumers if meat did not come from an animal, passed the Arizona House earlier this session.
The USDA approved the sale of cultivated meat in 2023.
Both bills now await action in the Senate.
